Kashmir Treacherous Highway likely to open early

SRINAGAR, INDIAN CONTROLLED KASHMIR, INDIA - MARCH 03: Snow cutters of Indian Border Roads Organisation clearing snow from Srinagar-Leh Highway on a treacherous pass which remains snow bound for most of the time is likely to open early this year mostly because of less snowfall and dry weather on March 03, 2016 in Zojila, 108 km east of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian controlled Kashmir, India. Snow clearance begins on the 443 km long Srinagar Leh Highway and is expected to be thrown open by ending March this year as per Indian Border Roads Organisation. The highway remains snowbound for most of the time due to accumulation of snow on Zojila pass which connects Kashmir with Ladakh region a famous tourist destination among foreign tourists for its monasteries, landscapes and mountains. The average snow buildup on the rocky territory of Zojila pass normally stays in the level of 15 to 25 meters and is closed for a half of each year. It opens up in late spring and travelers on the pass have to withstand snowstorms, fierce air currents, cold and highly dangerous circumstances.
