Making The Kaaba Cloth In Egypt

Egyptian embroiderer Ahmed Shawqi Othman Al-Qasabji, who comes from a family traditionally responsible for creating the kiswa, is stitching a verse from the Holy Qur'an with gold threads onto an exact copy of the sacred fabric that covers the Kaaba at the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia. He is working from his workshop exhibition in the Hussein district of Islamic Cairo, Egypt, on January 5, 2024. (Photo by Mahmoud Elkhwas/NurPhoto)
