Iran-Dried Lake Of Urmia
Salts are accumulating on the south side of Lake Urmia, which has not yet dried up, in West Azerbaijan Province, approximately 604 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of Tehran, Iran, on January 14, 2014. Once the largest lake in the Middle East and the sixth-largest saltwater lake on Earth, Lake Urmia remains a majestic expanse of salt and water, situated between the East and West Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran. This endorheic salt lake holds a unique place in the region's natural heritage. (Photo by Morteza Nikoubazl/NurPhoto)
