National Assembly Passes Ban On Dog Meat Consumption
In Daegu, South Korea, on January 11, 2024, a view of the deserted street once concentrated with dog meat vendors at Chilsung Market is seen following the aversion towards dog meat soup. The ''Special Law on the End of Dog Meat Consumption'' was passed and enacted in the National Assembly on January 9, 2024. In Korea, consuming dog meat is no longer permitted. The notorious reputation associated with the ''dog meat industry'' is fading into history. The new law supports the closure of dog farms and related facilities for three years after its enactment, leading to the industry's eventual extinction. Starting from 2027, the breeding, farming, slaughter, distribution, and sale of dogs for consumption will be prohibited and penalized.
