Reindeer Husbandry In Tromso, Norway

Several people are feeding Norwegian domestic reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) on the plains of a Sami farm in Tromso, Norway, on January 9, 2024. Reindeer husbandry is a traditional activity and an integral part of Sami culture, the indigenous people of the region. These reindeer farms, known as ''siidas'' in the Sami language, are important for the preservation of the traditional Sami culture and way of life. Reindeer farms in and around Tromso are often located in areas where reindeer can graze freely for part of the year. Reindeer are a valuable source of meat, milk, and hides for the Sami, and reindeer husbandry is being carried out in accordance with traditional and sustainable practices.
