Farmers Protest In Toulouse
A farmer is making a sign to other farmers during a protest in Toulouse, France, on January 16, 2024. The sign reads 'We're walking on our heads'. The FDSEA and JA farmers' unions are calling their members to protest, urging the government for assistance. Farmers are coming with their tractors and are blocking the streets as they protest against the rise in water usage fees, taxes on biocides, and the application of the EGAlim law. They are also demanding that the French government ''cut the red tape.'' Farmers are pouring manure and waste at the entrance of buildings housing several agencies related to agriculture: Ademe (for efficient energy use), the Adour-Garonne water agency, and the OFB (French Office for Biodiversity). Some farmers are attempting to break into the building but are being stopped by Gendarmerie and Police officers. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
