Snow Leopard Rescued From Southern Plains Of Nepal And Brought To Kathmandu

A rescued snow leopard, also known as the Mountain Ghost and listed as an endangered species, is sitting inside a cage at the Central Zoo in Lalitpur District, Nepal, on January 26, 2024. The snow leopard, scientifically known as Panthera uncia, was found earlier this week in the Southern Plains of Nepal. Experts suspect that this may be a case of attempted animal smuggling, as the snow leopard's natural habitat ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 meters above sea level. Forest officials rescued the snow leopard from Urlabari in Koshi, which is situated at an elevation of 146 meters above sea level. (Photo by Sanjit Pariyar/NurPhoto)
