Jury Awards E. Jean Carroll $83.3 Million In 2nd Defamation Trial Against Donald Trump

E. Jean Carroll is leaving federal court in New York City, on January 26, 2024, after a jury has awarded her a historic $83.3 million in compensatory and punitive damages. In this second defamation trial, the jury is awarding $11 million for a reputation repair program, plus an additional $7.3 million, to compensate Carroll for Trump's defamatory statements on June 21 and 22, 2019. They are also finding that Mr. Trump acted maliciously, out of hatred, ill will, or spite, vindictively, or in wanton, reckless, or willful disregard of Carroll's rights. For this finding, they are awarding Carroll an additional $65 million in punitive damages, bringing the total award amount to $83.3 million. (Photo by Melissa Bender/NurPhoto)
