Tawur Kesanga Ritual Ahead Nyepi Celebration

A Balinese Hindu girl is putting rice on her face as she participates in the Tawur Kesanga ritual at the Parahyangan Agung Pasundan temple in Bekasi district, West Java, on March 10, 2024. During the Tawur Kesanga ritual, Balinese Hindus worship and parade Ogoh-ogoh, effigies that represent demons or bad traits, which will then be burned as a symbol of victory over evil. The Tawur Kesanga ritual is the final series of rituals ahead of Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, which this year will be celebrated on March 11. (Photo by Aditya Irawan/NurPhoto)
