Animal India - Common Tailorbird - Orthotomus Sutorius

The Common Tailorbird (Orthotomus sutorius) is building a nest. These little birds, ranging from 3.9 to 5.5 inches in size, are renowned for their unique nests made of leaves "sewn" together. They typically construct nests by stitching leaves, even on small weeds, resulting in nests that blend seamlessly with surrounding foliage and are difficult to distinguish. A Common Tailorbird can be observed creating a nest by sewing leaves together, with its head to neck visible while sewing, in Tehatta, West Bengal, on March 20, 2024.
