Metalmark Moth (Brenthia Sp.) The Dancing Moth - Animal India

The Metalmark Moth (Brenthia sp.) is a tiny moth that belongs to the Choreutidae family. It has a flashy appearance and adopts a bold stance atop a leaf. The Metalmark Moth is known for its dynamic movements, including pouncing and pirouetting around its leafy ''dance floors.'' It also mimics the jumping spider, a predator. These small moths often feature metallic scales and are mostly active during the day (though some are also attracted to lights), exhibiting jerky, pivoting behavior. They may fluff up their wings at extreme angles. Some tropical species, such as those in the genus Saptha, are quite spectacular, with bright green metallic bands. The members of the genus Brenthia, often placed in their subfamily Brenthiinae, have eyespots on their wings and have been shown to mimic jumping spider predators effectively.
