Grebeg Syawal Tradition To Mark Eid Al-Fitr In Indonesia

Royal servants from the Yogyakarta Palace, known as Abdi Dalem, are distributing the Gunungan, a mountain-shaped offering made of sticky rice, sweets, various foods, fruits, and vegetables, to people during the Grebeg Syawal tradition as part of the Eid al-Fitr celebration at Kauman Great Mosque in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on April 11, 2024. This tradition represents alms from Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X to his people in celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Receiving a portion of the Gunungan is believed to bring good luck and blessings for the year ahead. (Photo by Rizqullah Hamiid/NurPhoto)
