Sri Lankan Mosque Holds Condolence For Iranian Crash Victims

Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, is attending a condolence program at Kollupitiya Jumu'ah Mosque in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on May 22, 2024. On Sunday, May 19, 2024, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and several other high-ranking officials is crashing in a mountainous area near the Iran-Azerbaijan border, killing all nine people on board. The helicopter, identified as a Bell 212 model, is carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province, Malek Rahmati, and Tabriz's Friday prayer leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, along with five crew members. They are returning from the inauguration of the Qiz-Qalasi Dam, a joint hydroelectric power project with Azerbaijan, when the crash occurs. (Photo by Akila Jayawardena/NurPhoto)
