Pride Parade In Nepal
Participants of the 6th Nepal Pride Parade are holding the pride flag as they are marching through the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal, on June 8, 2024. Hundreds of members of marginalized sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics (PoMSOGIESC) are annually organizing the parade on the second Saturday of June. Pride Parade is a particular parade/rally event, while the day it falls on is Pride Day. The second Saturday of June is Pride Day in Nepal. The month of June in the Gregorian calendar is Pride Month. Having one of the most progressive constitutions to grant rights and recognition to sexual minorities, Nepal is starting to collect data on LGBTQI+ individuals from the last census of 2021. As per the latest census of 2021, there are a total of 2,928 people who are identifying themselves as ''others'' in terms of gender or sexual orientation. The census of 2021 is also marking the first census of the nation to start recording the population of sexual minorities. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
