28-spotted Potato Ladybird -Hadda Beetles - Henosepilachna Vigintioctopunctata

The 28-spotted Potato Ladybird or the Hadda Beetles (Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata) are destroying a bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) plant by breaking off and eating its flowers, and their larvae grubs are scraping the leaves together by the lower epidermis of leaves in a characteristic manner, leaving behind stripes of uneaten areas. The leaves are giving a stifled appearance and are being eaten off, leaving only the veins intact (skeletonization), and the plants may wither. Sometimes these beetle pairs are mating in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on July 6, 2024. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
