Houston Highway Blacked Out Amid Citywide Power Outages Following Hurricane Beryl
Early on the morning of Thursday, July 11, 2024, in Houston, Texas, as the city is moving into its third day of citywide power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl, Interstate 10 (I-10) is in complete darkness except for the fleeting illumination of passing vehicles. The enormous, and usually well-lit, highway is relying on an extensive series of high mast light poles which line each side of the road, but they are out of service due to power limitations in the area. Vehicles are driving eastbound on I-10 near the intersection of I-10 and Washington Avenue in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Reginald Mathalone/NurPhoto)
