KP Sharma Oli Stakes Claim As Next Nepal Prime Minister

Nepal's to-be-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli (in a blue coat), Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), is walking out of the federal parliament in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 12, 2024, after attending the house session which is deliberating on the confidence motion tabled by ousted Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. Oli is staking his claim to be the next Prime Minister of the Himalayan Nation after President Ram Chandra Paudel is calling on political parties representing in parliament to stake claims for the formation of a new government with a deadline set for the evening of July 14, 2024. The President is calling in the parties to form a new government about three hours after now-caretaker Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is failing the trust motion. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is losing his position on Friday, over 18 months after his appointment, as he is failing to secure a vote of confidence during a floor test in the House of Representatives. Dahal isn't securing the 138 votes required to endorse the trust motion as only 63 lawmakers are voting in his favor in the 275-strong House of Representatives. A total of 194 lawmakers are voting against him, while a member is casting a no vote. A total of 258 lawmakers are present in Friday's meeting of the lower House.
