Wildfires In Pantanal
Divino Bispo Santiago, a 55-year-old field foreman, is working alongside firefighters and brigadiers to contain the flames in the Sao Bento farm area, where he has been employed for six months, in Corumba, Brazil, on July 2, 2024. After four months of intense drought and dry rivers, areas that were once flooded, like this one, are now dry and more susceptible to the fires that are destroying the biome. ''The Pantanal is ending, in fact, the beautiful Pantanal full of animals as we knew it is already gone,'' he laments. (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
