Heatwave Dries Up Kashmir's River Jhelum

Owners are fixing wooden logs at the bottom to keep the balance of the houseboat on the dry beds of river Jhelum, as the dry spell is continuing in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on July 23, 2024. A prolonged heatwave is drastically reducing water levels in Kashmir's river Jhelum, leaving large areas dry and cracked. This is heightening worries among residents who rely on the river for drinking and irrigation. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
