Police Involved Shooting In Chicago Leaves One Suspect Dead, One Police Officer Hurt And Two Victims Critically Wounded By The Suspect

Police are involved in a shooting that is leaving one suspect dead and two victims critically wounded by the suspect shooting at them in Chicago, Illinois, United States, on August 18, 2024. Sunday morning at approximately 1:16 a.m., Chicago Police Officers assigned to the Robbery Task Force are hearing multiple shots being fired in the 1800 block of S. Blue Island Avenue. Police officers are encountering armed suspects, at which point both officers are firing their weapons, striking a suspect. A firearm is being recovered at the scene in the slide-lock position. Responding police officers are beginning to render aid. The male suspect is being transported to the hospital where he is pronounced dead. Two victims, a male and female, are being discovered inside of a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds in the vicinity of where officers are hearing shots being fired. Both of the victims are being transported to local hospitals and are reportedly in critical condition. Further investigation is revealing this suspect is one of the suspects who is firing shots in the direction of the occupied vehicle, striking both of the victims. Two police officers are being transported to an area hospital for observation. One police officer is sustaining minor injuries. The Investigative Response Team is on the scene investigating. Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
