Nepali LGBTIQ+ Community Hold Gaijatra (Pride) Parade In Kathmandu
Members of the sexual minority LGBTIQ+ group of Nepal are walking past the Kaal Bhairab statue located in Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, during the Gaijatra (Pride) parade in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 20, 2023. The sexual minority group in the Himalayan nation is holding an annual parade in commemoration of their deceased colleagues from the past year, coinciding with the festival of Gaijatra. The festival of Gaijatra also commemorates those who died in the past year, where people of all ages are disguising themselves as cows and lunatics and going around the city. In contrast, the pride parade is helping people come forward and present themselves to society. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
