Teachers' Day Celebration At A Rural School In India
Nabin Nagar Primary School is a remote rural school situated in the Indian village of Nabin Nagar, along the barbed wire border of India and Bangladesh. Most villagers are uneducated, and there is little to no cultural practice in the area. Smuggling is a significant issue along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Despite these challenges, the school celebrates Teachers' Day on September 5th, marking the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India. The headmaster of the school takes the initiative to organize the celebration, preparing garlands of marigold flowers for his female students before their dance performance. Traditionally, women create these garlands, but since there is no female staff at the school, the headmaster carefully knits the garlands himself to ensure the sharp needles do not hurt his students. The celebration took place in Nabin Nagar, West Bengal, India, on September 5, 2024. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
