Huge Fire In Philippines Engulfed Nearly 800 Homes, Displacing Families

The fire breaks out in the early hours of September 10 and displaces nearly 1,000 families, with many living in poverty being forced to take shelter in nearby evacuation centers where assistance and relief efforts are given to the affected people. The accident occurs in a densely populated compound, where houses mainly made of iron sheets, wood, and combustible materials are built within narrow streets, which, according to local media reports, makes it difficult for rescuers to conduct emergency operations. This is one of the major fire disasters that makes Filipinos homeless this year. Past research and reports by NGOs find that heightened electricity, straining power lines, as well as combustible materials such as dry leaves, grass, and garbage which are susceptible to ignition from sun exposure or discarded cigarettes, are some of the reasons why the Southeast Asian country is prone to fire.
