Halcyon Smyrnensis - Animal India

A White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) was seen sleeping with its white eyelids closed while perched on a branch in a forest in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 16, 2024. Also known as the White-breasted Kingfisher, this species is a tree kingfisher found across Asia, from the Sinai Peninsula to the Indian subcontinent, China, and Indonesia. It is often found far from water and feeds on a diverse range of prey, including small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents, and even birds. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
