NY: UN Security Council Meeting On Migration
Par Liljert, Director of the International Organization for Migration Office to the United Nations, briefs the Security Council meeting on maintenance of international peace and security. during a Security Council meeting on migrant smuggling off the coast of Libya at the United Nations Headquarters on September 30, 2024 in New York City. Representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that while migration is decreasing in certain areas in the Mediterranean:an increase of Sudanese migrants crossing from Lybia to Europe is at an increase. UNHCR is urging affected states to combat human trafficking while offering humanitarian assistance and make provisions for migrant documntation for residency and work permits.
