Pre-Deployment Mission Readiness Exercise

Defence Forces soldiers L-R Lt Col Stephen Ryan and Sergeant Major David Heaphy from the 53rd Infantry Group undergoing mission readiness training in Glen of Imaal in preparation for the unit's deployment to the United Nations Interim Force Lebanon. The training, taking place in the Glen of Imaal, Co. Wicklow, will test the unit’s operational capability by putting the soldiers through their paces in a series of simulated incidents that the unit could face during their 6 month tour of duty. The 53rd Infantry Group, comprising a Mechanised Infantry Company and a Support Group, will deploy as part of an Irish/Finnish Battalion and will carry out peacekeeping duties under Chapter 6 of the United Nations Charter.
