Counting Of Votes For Jammu And Kashmir State Assembly Elections 2024
Supporters of the Indian National Congress (INC) party celebrate as the counting of votes takes place for the local assembly elections in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 8, 2024. Supporters of the NC and INC parties celebrate as their party candidates lead in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls. The counting for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls is underway, with 873 candidates contesting 90 seats. These are the first Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls held in 10 years and also the first since the abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which ended the semi-autonomous character of the region on August 5, 2019, and downgraded and divided Jammu and Kashmir state into two federally administered union territories of J&K and Ladakh.
