Catopsilia Pomona - Common Emigrant Butterfly Caterpillars - Animal India

A Catopsilia pomona butterfly caterpillar, commonly known as the Common Emigrant or Lemon Emigrant, is seen feeding on the green leaves of a Golden Shower (Senna fistula) seedling plant at Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on October 22, 2024. After feeding, the caterpillar sits upright on the leaf veins, blending in with the leaves due to its similar green color, almost camouflaging itself. This medium-sized pierid butterfly is known for its migratory habits, and its caterpillars primarily feed on the young leaves of host plants, particularly species from the Senna genus, with the Golden Shower being a common host in India.
