Annakut Festival In Kolkata
Indian devotees collect holy rice during the Annakut Utsav (Govardhan Puja) at Madan Mohon Mandir in Kolkata, India, on November 2, 2024. People in large numbers gather at the temple and collect the rice offerings in the belief that the rice will keep them in good condition and prevent poverty or scarcity of food. According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the first lunar day called 'Ekam' of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight of the moon) in the month of Kartik. It forms an integral part of Diwali celebrations. Govardhan Puja commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over Indra. (Photo by Debajyoti Chakraborty/NurPhoto)
