Celebration Of The Polytechnic Uprising In Athens - Day 2

People lay flowers at the monument inside the Polytechnic University to mark the 51st anniversary of the November 17, 1973, student uprising against military rule, also known as the Polytechnic Uprising, in Athens, Greece, on November 16, 2024. November 17 marks the Athens Polytechnic Uprising in 1973 when students hold a massive demonstration against the ruling Greek military junta. The uprising begins on November 14, 1973, and escalates to an open revolt against the military junta, which rules the country since 1967. It ends in bloodshed in the early morning of November 17, after a series of events starting with a tank crashing through the gates of the Polytechnic campus. At least 24 civilians are killed during the uprising. (Photo by Nikolas Kokovlis/NurPhoto)
