NYPD Press Conference Following NYPD Officer Shot In Jamaica Queens New York City

New York City Mayor Eric Adams holds a news conference with the NYPD following a police officer being shot in Jamaica, Queens, New York, United States, on November 19, 2024. At 5:35 pm, police respond to a robbery in progress inside 164-01 Hillside Avenue, which is the Village Market Grocery. Male suspect Gary Worthy enters to commit a robbery, and a gunshot is fired. At 6:24 pm, while police search for the suspect, they are flagged down by a witness who sees the suspect. At 6:30 pm, at 161 and Jamaica Avenue, officers approach the suspect, ask him to stop, and he does not comply, instead running away while showing a firearm. Officers return fire and kill the suspect. The officer is hit in the thigh and is expected to make a full recovery. Gary Worthy has 17 prior arrests and is on lifetime parole.
