Bavarian Advent Highlight In Burghausen, Home To The World’s Longest Castle Complex

The Christmas atmosphere occurs on the first Saturday in Advent in and around the old ducal town of Burghausen, Bavaria, Germany, on November 30, 2024, with numerous Christmas markets in the old city. During the event 'Lichterlweg,' more than 350 wooden lanterns transform Lake Wohrsee into an illuminated natural setting at the foot of the world's longest castle. Burghausen Castle, at 1051 meters, is the longest castle complex in the world, situated on a ridge above the old town. It is the most populous town in the Upper Bavarian district of Altotting. The municipality lies on the Salzach River, which forms the border with Austria. (Photo by Michael Nguyen/NurPhoto)
