Miners' Day Celebrations In Nikiszowiec

In Nikiszowiec, Poland, on December 4, 2024, the miners' orchestra walks through the streets of the city, traditionally waking up residents on Barborka. Barborka is a traditional miners' holiday celebrated on Saint Barbara's Day on December 4. She is the patron saint of a good death and hard work. On this day in the Katowice district of Nikiszowiec, miners traditionally walk with lanterns, and the miners' orchestra wakes up residents in the morning by walking through the streets of the city. After the march, a ceremonial mass is held. (Photo by Klaudia Radecka/NurPhoto)
