Political Turmoil Arises In South Korea Following President Yoon's Failed Attempt To Declare Martial Law

Progressive Party National Assembly Member Jung Hye-kyung delivers a speech calling for the immediate arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol. Progressive Party Chairperson Kim Jae-yeon, National Assembly Member Yoon Jong-oh, and about 30 other party members join the rally near the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea, on December 12, 2024, demanding the President's impeachment and urgent detention. The protesters claim that President Yoon's morning address to the nation amounts to an admission of being the mastermind of a rebellion and insist on his immediate arrest. Police block the group from advancing within several hundred meters of the residence. (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
