South Korea Court Issues Warrant To Detain Impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol

A police riot squad stands by to maintain order as around 30 supporters of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol stage a sit-in protest in front of his official residence to block his arrest in Seoul, South Korea, on January 2, 2025. Authorities report that a total of 2,000 officers are deployed for the operation. Protesters hold signs reading ''STOP THE STEAL'' as they voice their opposition to the president's detention. A Seoul court issues a detention warrant for Yoon over his failed attempt to impose martial law, making him the first sitting South Korean president to face arrest. (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
