Saturn Occultation Through A Telescope

Moon creating a lunar occultation of Saturn visible from Europe, Africa, western Russia, and eastern Greenland is seen through a telescope from Castelvecchio Calvisio (L’Aquila), Italy, on January 4th, 2025. Lunar occultations are relatively rare events where the Moon passes directly between Earth and another celestial object, temporarily obscuring it from view. This particular occultation offered a unique opportunity to observe the "ringed planet" disappearing behind the Moon and reemerging later. (Photo by Lorenzo Di Cola/NurPhoto)
