Photojournalists And Journalists Protest Against Police Violence Toward Media Professionals
On January 31, 2025, photojournalists and journalists gather outside the Ministry of Citizen Protection in Athens, Greece, to protest against police violence toward media professionals. The Union of Greek Photojournalists (EFE) and Foreign Press Association (FPA) organize this demonstration in response to an incident on January 26. During a protest honoring the 57 people who died in the Tempe train crash, riot police fire a flashbang grenade that strikes photojournalist Marios Lolos in the head before detonating. Lolos sustains injuries, including ear damage and bruising, and expresses concerns about potential long-term hearing loss. He emphasizes that the grenade appears to have been thrown with intent to cause serious harm. (Photo by Nikolas Kokovlis/NurPhoto)
