Balinese Perform Melukat Ritual To Celebrate Banyu Pinaruh

Balinese Hindus pray before they perform a ritual called Melukat to celebrate Banyu Pinaruh in the Pesiraman area of Pura Dalem Pingit at Pesiraman Waterfall in Gianyar Regency, Bali, Indonesia, on February 9, 2025. Banyu Pinaruh is a self-cleansing ritual performed by Balinese Hindus after celebrating Saraswati Day, a day to worship a goddess of knowledge. Devotees bathe in holy water from a spring, waterfall, or other source believed to have the cleansing power to purify. The ritual is a symbolic and literal cleansing of the body and soul, aimed at preventing misfortune, disease, or harm caused by daily activities and sins. (Photo by Garry Lotulung/NurPhoto)
