Government Offices And Courts Inundated In Kathmandu With Rupture In Water Supply Pipeline

A section of road is inundated following a rupture in the water supply pipeline in Kathmandu, Nepal, on February 12, 2025. The premises of the Kathmandu District Court and the Special Court fill with water, forcing evacuation. A part of the road at Babarmahal in Kathmandu collapses following the rupture of the Melamchi Water Supply, inundating two courts, the Forestry Complex, and other surrounding buildings. The road section collapses as water gushes to the surface, prompting disaster response teams to rescue those stranded. With water gushing into the premises of the Kathmandu District Court and the Special Court, justices of both courts are evacuated by crossing the metal bars. Since the pipes are laid in close proximity, it takes some time for the Melamchi Drinking Water Project team to identify which pipe has burst. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
