Activists Protest Coal Energy At Welzow Mine

Anti-coal activists occupy a loading station close to the Welzow Sued open-pit coal mine on May 13, 2016 near Spremberg, Germany. The activists, part of a movement called "Ende Gelaende," are demanding an end to the use of coal for energy production in favor of renewable energy means. The Welzow Sued mine is operated by Vattenfall but is in the process of being sold to the Czech energy company EPH. (Photo by Markus Heine/NurPhoto)
