Locals from the Sasak ethnic group use nets to participate in the tradition of Bau Nyale, or ''catching sea worms,'' at Seger Beach, Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, on February 18, 2025. Each year, thousands of people descend on Seger Beach and the surrounding coves in the early hours of the morning. They come armed with torches, buckets, and nets, waiting for a phenomenon rooted in ancient folklore. These people are the Sasak, the Indigenous tribe of Lombok. Every year, the Sasak gather to catch sea worms as part of a unique tradition in Lombok. Worms are often associated with prosperity and fertility.
