Polish government wants to remove Soviet monuments

Bydgoszcz, Poland on 19 May 2016 - Controversy has started after the Polish government has said it wants to remove several hundred remaining Soviet monuments from municipalities. The Russian government said that the removal of such monuments would be an insult after one such memorial in Szczecin in remembrance of the Red Army was set to be displaced or destroyed. Poland has a troubled history with the Soviet Union and its relationship with Moscow is linked to the debate over the 50 years of Soviet influence on the country. (Photo by Jaap Arriens/NurPhoto)
