Pulquerias Protest Closure Of Pulquerias In Mexico City
Pulqueros protest by drinking pulque outside the La Paloma Azul pulqueria in Mexico City, Mexico, after authorities order the suspension of operations at the establishment, in addition to the closure of other pulquerias in the capital. Those affected claim that the measure is applied indiscriminately, affecting businesses that, in many cases, operate legally and have years of tradition in the city. Pulque is an alcoholic beverage of pre-Hispanic origin. It is obtained from the leaves of the maguey plant and is made from the fermentation of mucilage, popularly known as aguamiel, on March 25, 2025. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
