Over 220,000 Without Power In Ontario As Ice Storm Moves Through The Province

Buds and branches of a tree are encased in ice during an ice storm caused by freezing rain in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on March 30, 2025. Environment Canada issues a 'freezing rain warning' for Toronto early Sunday as the city expects to see ice build-up between three to five millimeters. Over 220,000 customers are without power in Ontario due to the ice storm. Hydro One, the provincial power utility, indicates that the outages are concentrated in central Ontario, from Tobermory and Gravenhurst to Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes.
