Prisoners In Mexico City Perform The Passion Of Christ Inside The North Men's Social Rehabilitation Center

On April 18, 2025, prisoners perform the Passion of Christ inside the North Men's Social Rehabilitation Center in the Gustavo A. Madero borough of Mexico City, Mexico, as part of the Good Friday Holy Week activities in the capital. The commemorative events in the penitentiary system are held with the support of the Archdiocese of Mexico, through the Penitentiary Pastoral Commission, considering that more than 80 percent of the population professes the Catholic religion and experiences these events with faith. The Undersecretariat of the Penitentiary System of the Secretariat of City Security of Mexico City has been performing the Passion of Christ in various social rehabilitation centers across the city for approximately 22 years. This penitentiary has a capacity of 5,430 spaces and is overcrowded by more than 60 percent, a situation that requires the conversion of various spaces into dormitories.
