Philadelphia Police Officer Shot In Line Of Duty While Trying To Break Up A Fight Outside Overbrook High School

Violence interrupters and police maintain a presence at the scene following an incident where a Philadelphia police officer is shot in the stomach in the line of duty on the 5800 block of Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, on May 7, 2025. A Philadelphia police officer is shot in the stomach while breaking up a large fight outside Overbrook High School, which breaks out around 2:42 p.m. outside the school. As responding police officers break up the fight, a 30-year-old man armed with a Ruger-5.7 arrives at the scene, fires the weapon, and a bullet ricochets off the ground, striking the 26-year-old Philadelphia police officer underneath his bulletproof vest. The officer is taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he is undergoing surgery and is currently in critical condition. The officer has been with the department for a little over a year and is assigned to the 19th District in March. The suspect is in custody and no officer fires their weapon during the shooting.
