Chile: Building That Functioned As A Prison And Torture Center During The Military Dictatorship Is Opened.
The facade of the former PDI building opens for the first time for the celebration of Heritage Day. The former barracks of the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI), which functioned as a military prosecutor's office during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, served as a site where men and women were brought in from other precincts to be interrogated and tortured between 1973 and 1975. Former political prisoners who were detained in this barracks recount their experiences to visitors in Osorno, Chile, on May 25, 2025 (Photo by Fernando Lavoz, Nur Photo).
