The Falles Of Alins, The Prehistoric Fire Festival Of The Pyrenees (file Images)
The falla descent in Alins is part of the summer solstice fire festivals of the Pyrenees, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. With pre-Christian roots, these celebrations symbolize the renewal of life, the purification of the land, and the protection of the community through fire during the longest days of the year. Each year, around St. John's Eve, fallaires descend from the mountains carrying burning torches made of resinous wood, tracing paths of fire through the darkness. In Alins, as in other villages of the Vall Ferrera, the community gathers to welcome them with music, festivity, and rituals passed down through generations. This fusion of ancient spirituality and popular culture remains alive, deeply rooted in the landscape and collective spirit of the Pyrenees.
