Former Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari Announces Return To Politics
Former Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli take opposite sides during a program where Bhandari announces her return to politics after completing her two terms in office two years ago, on June 28, 2025. Bhandari intends to challenge Oli as the chairman of CPN-UML, which brings an intra-party rift in CPN-UML. Former President Bhandari, also the former vice-chair of the UML, is twice elected President of the country. She is also the wife of the late Madan Bhandari, the UML general secretary credited with providing the ideological basis for the UML's entry into competitive parliamentary politics. He dies in a car crash in Chitwan in 1993 under mysterious circumstances. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
