Supreme Court To Hear Plea For Restoration Of Jammu And Kashmir's Statehood

Indian security personnel patrol along a street in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on August 5, 2025. Today marks the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. On August 5, 2019, the Government of India revokes Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcates the state into two union territories--Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court hears a plea on August 8 for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, court officials say on Tuesday. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
